My preferred Sony gear for aviation photography would consist of the following:
Sony A1 + FE 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 + FE 400mm f/2.8 + FE 1.4x Extender + FE 2x Extender + FE 24-105 f/4 + FE 16-35 f/4 + Sony A7RV (second body)
Why this photography setup? I prefer to balance the sharpest yet lightest lenses I can carry for handheld photography. A 400mm f/2.8 with a 1.4x Teleconverter provides that balance and can fit in a carry-on baggage aboard aircraft. A 200-600mm zoom allows flexibility for a wide variety of focal lengths, especially at airshows where you are limited to where you will be allowed to photograph from. The 24-105mm provides you with the coverage you need to capture static aircraft, people as well as the landscape surrounding you. Lastly, the A1 is a high performance camera that has all the features you available to a camera, it’s small and perfect fits perfectly in the hand and has a 50mp. As a second body I would recommend either another A1 or the A7RV 61mp sensor camera for those incredibly high resolution that it is capable of rendering.
